Cooking at home with Maggi

This is a sponsored post for Nuffnang and Maggi

I’m not afraid to admit I’m just a little bit of a food nazi when it comes to cooking.

Most of the food in our house is home made and we make everything from garlic bread to spaghetti bolognese ourselves.

I don’t know why this is or when the change happened. I guess at one point in our relationship we just felt we would rather spend a little more time {and money} making things from scratch instead of just opening up a pre-made flavor kit from the supermarket.

It changed the way we see food and it definitely changed our outlook on healthy eating for the better. Nowadays the only packet mix that enters our house comes from the Filipino store in town because it’s just too hard to source the ingredients.

A few weeks ago a package arrived filled with Maggi’s new range of one pan and so crispy products. I laid them out on the bench and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t skeptical but I was determined to give them a go and perhaps learn a thing or two along the way. After all who knows they could be amazing and I could be missing out on something great.

So that afternoon when the kids came home from school we did their homework and then we all hovered around the kitchen bench to make dinner together and what was on the menu you ask?

Well, tonight we were cooking Honey Mustard Chicken.

The idea is that Maggi’s new one pan dishes can be cooked in just that.. one pan! Now I’m a messy cook and when I finish the kitchen will be covered from one end to the other and my husband constantly complains that I feel the need to use every dish in the kitchen so this really was going to be a challenge.

We laid all the ingredients out on the counter ready to begin. The package arrived after we had done our grocery shopping for the week so I simply made one adjustment and used chicken legs instead of breast.

Maggi

  • 750g chicken breast, chopped or 6 chicken thighs
  • 2 large potatoes, cut into 1cm thick slices
  • 3/4 cup (190mL) light cream
  • 3/4 cup (190mL) water
  • 2 carrots, cut into sticks
  • 1 cup green beans, chopped

You will need about 15 minutes to do all your prep and then another 30 for cooking so it’s an easy meal that can definitely be completed in under an hour.

The kids helped to peel all of the vegetables and then I took over to do the chopping. After all I’m dangerous enough as it is.

Add your potatoes to pan and cook for 3 minutes over high heat or until golden and then add light cream, 3/4 cup (190mL) water, MAGGI One Pan Recipe Base and carrots to pan.

Bring to boil, cover and simmer for 20 minutes and then add beans, and cook for a further 5-10 minutes until potatoes are tender; stirring occasionally and serve.
Lunch: left over honey mustard chicken and the 5 year engagement

I have to say despite my food nazi ways of living I was pleasantly surprised at how this dish tasted. So surprised that it may have ended up in my trolley the next time we went to do our groceries.

We served this meal with rice, that you can also cook in the same pan but we choose to cook it separately to please our fussy eater who likes to see everything in sections on her plate.

This meal scored a 4/5 for our family with 4 of us scoffing it down and 1 having a little whinge that there was too many vegetables on her plate.

Since then we have road tested a few more meals that arrived on our door step including the spaghetti Bolognese and the crispy chicken schnitzels which were both a real hit.

I’m not totally putting aside my food nazi ways but I think these easy cook meals have taught me that perhaps it’s ok to take a break and do something easy every now again. After all how can you resist when they are just so darn delicious.

Because I’m all about sharing the love when it comes to good food. I have 25 of these little babies to give away and all you have to do to win is tell me.. What’s your cooking style? Are you a bit of a cheat when it comes to cooking, perhaps you like to sway between the two or perhaps you’re a total food nazi like me?

I can’t wait to see the results. I think this one is going to be fun. Come share your cooking story and good luck xx

I guess I try to cook every thing from scratch but living by myself I sometimes can’t be arsed and will sneak in a cheat now & again.

I use easy options during the week when I’m tired after work but I actually really love to cook so on the weekends I try to do something a little more special. Roasts a big favourite and even though they’re not that difficult to do, they’re just so yummy that it’s hard to go past them every now and then!

I used to follow in my mothers footsteps and most things came from packets or cans but now I like venture into new recipes and flavours and cook from scratch when ever I can! Having two small and fussy kids it can be difficult sometimes, lol!

I tend to make most things from scratch but I love the challange of creating something new and crossing my fingers that it works! These sound great as we all know feeding time at the zoo can get a bit frantic!
    Thanks Liz

I hate cleaning up, so I try use as few pots and pans as possible. I also get a bit lazy and make quick meals. Hubby loves cooking and makes the most awesome meals from scratch, like curry with made from scratch curry base.
