Time out

Sometimes there is something to be said for pulling back and doing only the things you want to do. The things that you like to do. There are always things that we HAVE to do. The grown up things like paying our bills and taking a shower. But do you ever take the time to do some of the things you REALLY want to do?

Like jump in puddles or something.

When was the last time you read a book and made the time to do it uninterrupted? It’s about planning as much as it is about asking for what you want. Most of the time unless we mention it the people around us will have no idea. So it’s not their fault. The blame lies with you. Sorry about that.

I read a post by Jacqui about asking for a night off to get some much needed sleep to bring her back from the edge. It takes courage to ask for what you want. Most people find it difficult to ask for things they need. Don’t be one of them.

Ask for help to take some time out for yourself this week. I expect you to report back. And yes, I AM pretty bossy for a guest poster, thank for noticing. Report back and tell us that you spent a luxurious hour in the tub, an evening out with friends, some quiet time reading in the park.

What do YOU really want to do?

This is a guest post by Melissa over at Suger Coat it. Melissa’s blog is a personal account of living the sweet life. Topics include food, fashion, living sugar free, trying to conceive and her laughable hubby. Make sure you pop over and say HI!

You know sometimes it takes someone, a friend or whoever, to be bossy to make you realise you’re not doing enough for yourself. It’s just so bloody important!! Thanks for the mention by the way xx

You’re welcome Jac. I thought it was SUCH a great post and reminder for all of us to ask for what we want. You rock.

i can’t agree with this post enough. Guv and i went through a pretty rough time recently and at the crux of it all, i had to sit down and explain what i needed, it wasn’t what he wanted to hear or expected to hear but it’s what i needed to say to him. since we had that chat and i’ve been getting little snippets here and there of what i said i needed – some time to myself to just be me, rather than an “us” every once in awhile – our relationship feels better.

it’s hard to take that step and say “hey you know what? i need this” but when you do, you usually feel so much better for it.

Glad you enjoyed it Rach. Love your comment. I’m glad that you stood for what you needed. Anything else would have been a load of bull and ruined your relationship sooner or later. Now it gets to be what it is. Wonderful even.

A few weeks ago the kids and hubby were driving me insane so I told them I needed to go to the bathroom and I locked the door and pulled the seat down so i could sit somewhere and just sat there in silence to hide from the world.

It’s the best fake excuse to pretend to use the toilet ever. Does that countZ

that most certainly counts!! sometimes you just need that silence bubble around you – be it on the sand next to the ocean, on top of a mountain or on the toilet locked away in the bathroom!

You’re the best Dani. HA. Next time at least pick the whole bathroom and take a nice long soak in the bath. ;)

It is time for me to do what I want to do, and that is going jogging. I have been postponing it all the time and putting other things first. For sure it can be hard for us to do the things we want to do.

    It’s SO hard sometimes!!

My bub is still so little, I’m still so new at this whole motherhood thing – and this is the kind of stuff that people don’t really talk about when you’re starting a family! It’s difficult to recognise how important it is to put yourself ahead of the rocking, the cooking, and the nappies on a regular basis. That said I went out for lunch today – baby and husband free! :-D (That right there is a creamy risotto stained grin.)
