When easter is all about chocolate

I don’t come from a religious family. Yes I’ve been christened and confirmed and I know all the facts about life and how we got here and all that but as a family we never went to church or anything like that and when it came time for me to organise my wedding I choose not to be married in a church or be affiliated with my husbands religious beliefs.

For our family easter has always been about spending time together as a family, cherishing the ones we love and being thankful for each day we have together. My kids learn about religion at school {and off tv} but I’ve never asked really sat down and talked to them about religion, I’ve never asked if they believe in god or what easter means to them, for all I know they could think it’s all about the chocolate.

I often wonder if this is something we should talk about. Something that should be discussed once and a while so they have the chance to make up their own minds and choose their own path. I would hate for them to steer away from religion just because I’m not terribly religious myself.

So tell me. What does easter mean to you and is there anything special you do with your family?

I’m not religious, we just weren’t raised that way.

But in all honesty, I kinda find myself envying those with religion, because it’d be nice to have something to believe in.

I sometimes thought about seeking some kind of religious faith myself later in life, but figured I’d look hypocritical coming from a long line of non believers.

And then there was the matter of, where would I start? Which religion?

I like Buddhism. It feels less ‘religion’, & more just a beautiful way to live your life.

As for Easter? Yummy chocolate! :)

P.S really loved meeting you! x

Honestly I think if your curious and you want to explore something why not just pick an aspect of the religion to explore. If you want to try buddhism try something like yoga to get in touch with your inner goddess. An if you feel the need to lean towards something more traditional why not start by saying grace…and go from there.

It was so lovely meeting you too, I’m sorry we didn’t get to chat more. I was shopping with friends yesterday and saw your dress in myers and squealed omg thats cheries dress, it’s gorgeous and they were like who the hell is cherie!

People on the outside just don’t “get it”

I with Cherie, I’m not religious but sometimes look at people who are (particularly when we go to Bali, which is mostly Hindu) and it really is beautiful.
That being said, Easter for us is about camping with friends, spending great quality time as a family and of course, the chocolate!

I grew up in a regular Christian family, so we celebrated Easter as a remeberance of the death & ressurection of Jesus.
Recently Luke and I have gotten more & more interested in the Hebrew roots of Christianity. The more we learn about that makes us look into Easter, and because of its pagan roots we don’t celebrate it at all. We’ll raise Lior never celebrating Easter.

I wouldn’t say it means ‘nothing’ to us. Luke’s pretty passionate about people knowing the truth about the origins of Easter, & the importance of not mixing religions!
Eek. Heavy stuff for a Monday afternoon, sorry about that!!
