Living up here can be a real struggle sometimes and if we haven’t managed to break away from our daily lives Luigi and I both start to feel a little niggly and up tight with each other so this year we have made it our mission to escape attempt to escape more and explore what is around us. So every two weeks we pack a huge amount of crap into the back of the ute and randomly pick a location on the map and hit the road.
This weekend we were really unprepared we had it in our minds that we wanted to go away for the night but we just couldn’t get our little legs moving. So we slept in longer then we would, organised our gear and packed the car and then hit the road about 10am. We were driving through town and we still hadn’t figured out exactly where we were going but we had a vague idea and were tossing up between spots.
After a while we ended up decided that we would head up to Bowen. We had checked out the caravan parks online and they seemed really nice. We had never been to Bowen before but we had driven past the turn off many times and it always looked like a nice place to spot.
Oh boy were we in for a treat. We drove into town and it looked a little rough but we thought..ok, maybe it gets better? We drove all around town and did a bit of a drive by of all the parks {there was about 8} and it didn’t get any better. We looked at each other and said let’s get the hell outta Bowen and never come back.
Bowen was three hours from home and we didn’t want to go any further north so we turned around and drove an hour towards home and stopped at little place called Midge Point. We drove along the road past all the farms and in my head I kept repeating..please be half decent, please be half decent.
We came to the end of road and there we found the travellers rest caravan park. Nestled in the trees, filled with old people in caravans and smack bang next to the beach. We knew we had a winner with this one. We unpacked the car, set up camp and headed straight for the beach.
The beach holds some kind of magical power over my children and they could seriously play and wander all day. We were down the beach until the sunset and then back again as soon as the sun was up. I took over 200 photos in the short time we were there and each one is more magical then then next. If only I could share them all with you..if only you could come too.

It’s a teeny place on the way to Airlie Beach.. Like a little holiday village type place but it was just perfect.

We used to jump in the car and go anywhere all the time! They are the best holiday/getaways – nothing planned, no set destination. Interesting what you thought about Bowen – now I know not to go there! Midge Point looks beautiful and it looks like you all had a wonderful time
